BRAND: BRITTANY GATES
CONSTRUCTION: Post and rail
MATERIAL: Class IV northern red pine
USAGE: Residential, Equestrian, Agricultural, Small holdings.
APPLICATIONS: Fields, Paddocks, Gardens
Class IV use, treated northern red pine with a smooth planed finish suitable for water and ground contact. On installation, we recommend that posts be concreted approximately one-third of their total length, with gravel placed at the base of the hole to release water.
- Posts 1.80m or 2.40m x 90mm x 90mm with a pointed top, pressure-treated class IV use for ground contact.
- Rail 4.20m x 36mm x 95mm pressure-treated class IV use for water and ground contact.
- For strength and rigidity, we recommend posts at approximately 2.10m intervals. The length of the rails will determine this.
- We suggest rail should be staggered for fence strength (for example - A three rail fence should have two rails butt joined on one post and one rail butt joined on the next.)
- We recommend two rails for a 1.00m high fence and a 1.80m post.
- Three or four rails for a 1.20m high fence with a 1.80m post.
- Four or five rails for a 1.30m to 1.50m fence with a 2.40m post.
- Rails can be either nailed or screwed.

Class 4 treatment involves impregnating the pine post with an ecological preservative product certified CTB-B+, combining autoclave, vacuum and pressure. The objective of the class IV treatment is to make the wood impervious to biological attacks (fungi, insects, termites) and unfavourable climatic conditions (humidity, frost, sun). It is ideal for outdoor uses, in direct contact with the ground or water, and is manifested by a specific green tint of the wood, likely to fade over time.
Unlike untreated pine posts or those with Class II and Class III treatment, the Class IV treated pine posts show remarkable endurance to various outdoor elements. With a lifespan of up to 15 years without significant maintenance, this material is economical and practical for all construction or outdoor developments.
Thanks to its protection against rot, wood-eating pests, mould, thermal fluctuations, humidity, UV rays and physical impacts, the class 4 pine post is recommended for any wooden construction in areas infested with termites, high humidity levels or both.
