Workshop
Quality timber Gates made at our workshop in Bourbriac, Brittany.
See how we fabricate our gates, the timber used, and maintenance tips to prolong your gate's lifespan and use.

How Our Gates Are Made
Our gates are handcrafted using time-honoured joinery techniques. These methods allow us to create gates that enhance the beauty of their surroundings and withstand the test of time.

The Timber We Use.
Northern red pine treated Class IV use
It is economical, durable, and suitable for prolonged contact with soil and moisture. Its resistance to rot, mould, wood-boring insects, and fungi is well established, making it the material of choice for outdoor use where contact with earth and water is inevitable. It is ideal for constructing gates, fences, and other outdoor structures.
Class 4 treatment involves impregnating the timber with an ecological preservative product certified CTB-B+, combining sterilization, vacuum, and pressure. Class IV treatment aims to make the wood impervious to biological attacks (fungi, insects, termites) and unfavourable climatic conditions (humidity, frost, sun). It is ideal for outdoor use in direct contact with the ground or water and manifests as a specific green tint of the wood that is likely to fade over time.

Slotted And Doweled
Diagonal rails of 75mm x 20mm
Our diagonal rails on our traditional English gates are slotted into a mortice on the top rail and doweled, for extra strength and rigidity.

Strong Joints
Mortice And Tenon
Strong mortice and tenon joints on all our Gates and a smooth planed finish

Cross-Over
More strength and rigidity
On all our English gates, for more strength and rigidity our rails are bolted, not pinned, at every cross over point
Gate Maintenance
Regular annual maintenance will prolong the lifespan of your gate.
We recommend treating your gate as soon as possible and then annually with a modern, microporous UV oil. The oil fills microscopic holes as it is absorbed into the wood, protecting it from deterioration and movement.
